Unions say workers went months without full pay despite the company’s landmark government contract.

On one hand, Way Industries is presented as a success story of Slovakia's defence industry. In February, the company, based in Krupina, signed a €145 million framework agreement with the Defence Ministry to produce its Božena demining systems.

On the other hand, trade unions paint a far less optimistic picture, reports the daily SME.

According to them, up to 15 percent of the company's employees have not received their full wages, leaving some struggling to pay bills, loan instalments or even basic living expenses. The unions describe the situation as an "existential threat" to workers' livelihoods and say there is "ever-present anger" among the workforce. Way Industries employs around 160 people.

One employee, speaking anonymously, told the daily that, "It would be good to also write about the fact that employees have not been paid their wages for March 2026."
