A kabaddi court built to international standards will be established at Kumarasamy Lake, locally known as Muthannankulam, near R.S. Puram in Coimbatore at a cost of ₹1.8 crore.The facility will come up on a vacant land near the multi-sports turf recently developed on the lake premises. According to Corporation officials, the turf-laying work was carried out at a cost of ₹60 lakh and the facility is ready for use. The site earmarked for the kabaddi court will be cleared and prepared for construction.The project is aimed at creating dedicated infrastructure for kabaddi and providing a permanent venue for training and competitions for local youth and sports enthusiasts. Officials said the facility would encourage greater participation in sports among youngsters.Kumarasamy Lake is among the nine water bodies rejuvenated by the Coimbatore Corporation under the Smart Cities Mission. During the rejuvenation works undertaken in 2021, the Corporation removed encroachments along the eastern and northern bunds and in parts of the water spread area, improving the tank’s storage capacity and increasing the water spread area to 20,870 sq. m.The Corporation spent around ₹31 crore on the development of Kumarasamy Lake and Selvampathy Lake.
