Yadollah Javani, the political deputy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has announced that Mojtaba Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, agreed to the initiation of negotiations with the United States, stating that this authorization was issued after the Islamic Republic set its preconditions and did so “from a position of dignity.”

According to Iranian media reports, speaking on Monday, June 22, at the National Convention for Basij Professors Day, General Javani referred to the recent war between the Islamic Republic and the United States, claiming that the United States had called for a ceasefire on the tenth and eleventh days of the conflict.

He stated that the Islamic Republic continued the war until the fortieth day to increase deterrence and deliver a “heavy blow” to the United States.

The IRGC political deputy also stated: “Ultimately, the Leader of the Revolution, after Iran’s preconditions were drafted, granted permission to negotiate from a position of dignity.”

Javani also commented on the position of the leader of the Islamic Republic regarding negotiations with the U.S., stating that the phrase “as a matter of principle” (ali-al-osoul) does not imply absolute opposition to negotiations with the United States.
