AVID stressed that its position was “clear and unwavering,” adding that it recognises only Kanu as the supreme leader of IPOB and Director of Radio Biafra.
The American Military Veterans of Igbo Descent (AVID) have thrown their weight behind the decision by the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to dissolve the group’s third Directorate of State (DOS) and constitute a new fourth Directorate, declaring that they would recognise and engage only officials appointed by Kanu.
In a statement signed by its President, Mr Sylvester Onyia, and Secretary, Mr Godson Obiagwu, AVID described Kanu’s action on June 17, 2026 as a legitimate exercise of his authority as the leader of IPOB and Director of Radio Biafra.
According to the group made up of Igbo veterans who have served or are serving in the United States Armed Forces, Kanu possesses “full institutional authority” to restructure IPOB’s administrative organs in the interest of the Biafran cause.
“AVID stands firmly with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu on his dissolution of the 3rd Directorate of State and inauguration of the 4th Directorate of State,” the statement read.
