More than 1200 foreign nationals have been evacuated from the Cape Agulhas Municipality following incidents of intimidation and threats of violence.

The group, comprising nationals from Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi, included about 220 children. They were temporarily accommodated at the Bredasdorp Community Hall, where they received humanitarian assistance before being voluntarily repatriated.

Municipal manager Wessel Rabbets confirmed that the final two buses departed late on Saturday, bringing the operation to a close.

"The final two buses departed late (Saturday) evening, concluding the voluntary repatriation process. It is hereby confirmed that the Bredasdorp Community Hall has been vacated and is once again available for normal public use.
