Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, on Sunday, extended an olive branch to his main rivals in the governorship election held on Saturday, Wole Oluyede of the All Progressives Congress and Amb Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress.

Oyebanji was re-elected after polling 319,224 votes over his closest rivals, Oluyede (40,533 votes) and Bejide (12,872 votes), across the state’s 16 local governments.

The Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology, Akure, Prof Adenike Oladiji, announced the final result at the collation centre in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, on Sunday morning.

Oyebanji, who spoke in a chat with journalists in Ado Ekiti on Sunday after he was declared the winner, gave a hint of his plan to visit the two opposition candidates.

The governor said, “A while ago, Mr President, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, called to congratulate me after the official announcement of the 2026 Ekiti governorship election. I have also called the candidates of PDP, Dr Oluyede and ADC, Ambassador Dare Bejide.”
