Chelsea is in the market for a new centre-back, looking to find the right partner for Levi Colwill as the club turns its attention to shoring up a defense that has been defined as much by injury reports as by on-pitch performances.
Wesley Fofana, the French defender who arrived from Leicester City for up to £75 million in August 2022, is not going anywhere. Despite persistent questions about his fitness and availability, Chelsea considers him unlikely to be sold, a stance reinforced by Fofana’s own apparent commitment to the club.
Fofana’s complicated tenure at Stamford Bridge
The 2025/26 season was actually a relative bright spot. He managed 38 appearances, 31 of which were starts, a workload that would have seemed optimistic given his history.
But the injury bug bit again. Fofana underwent hamstring surgery in April 2025, the latest in a series of setbacks that have dogged his Chelsea career.
