The Consulate General of India, Cape Town celebrating International Day of Yoga 2026 at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden. The International Day of Yoga is observed annually on 21 June, following its proclamation by the United Nations General Assembly, and aims to raise awareness of the many benefits of practising yoga.

Many Capetonians opted to spend their morning amidst the tranquil beauty of the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden as they accepted the offer by the Consulate General of India to mark the 11th International Day of Yoga 2025.

Hundreds of people calmly and mindfully practised instructor-led yoga exercises in the brisk morning air as the sun rose over the gardens. The tranquillity not only brought out people, but three guinea fowl also found their way to the yoga session.

This year’s event took place under the theme of ‘Yoga for Healthy Ageing’, inviting people of all generations to breathe together and connect with their inner selves.

The choice of June 21 is deeply symbolic; it marks the northern summer solstice, the longest day of the year, and serves as a global moment of unity. Practising under the open air naturally returns yoga to its ancient first principles.
