"He asked that he buy palm wine for me, but I declined. I told him I did not come to drink palm wine. I came to serve as a party agent."

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) agent identified simply as Justice has accused the Enugu State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Enyinna Franklin Ogbonna, and suspected political thugs of attempting to kill him during Saturday's Enugu North Senatorial District bye-election in Ogwu Ward, Obollo Afor, Udenu Local Government Area.

Justice, who is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital, alleged that he was repeatedly assaulted after refusing to abandon his role as a PDP polling agent at Umuodo Village Hall in Ogwu community, the hometown of the commissioner.

In a video interview obtained by SaharaReporters, the injured party agent who was seen coughing blood and had bandages all over his head, recounted how what began as a disagreement over his presence at the polling unit allegedly escalated into a violent attack that left him with severe injuries.

According to him, he arrived at the polling unit to perform his duties as a duly accredited PDP agent when he was confronted by the commissioner.
