Violence and voter intimidation marred Saturday’s by-election in Enugu State, while Kebbi State recorded a low turnout during the exercise.

Although the election was reportedly peaceful in Ondo, Rivers and Nasarawa states, the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Kano State alleged that some of its members were attacked during the poll.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared by-elections in some states to fill vacant seats in the National and State Assemblies.

A total of 68 positions were contested, including six chairmanship seats and 62 councillorship positions in the FCT council election.

In Rivers State, by-elections were held in the Ahoada East II and Khana II State constituencies to fill vacancies arising from the resignation and death of sitting legislators.
