Officials will begin inspecting properties for compliance with mandatory brush-clearing rules starting Tuesday, Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Evangelos Tournas said in a recent interview.
Municipalities, assisted by local fire services, will be responsible for the checks.
“The deadline closes on Monday. No further extension can be given, because the climate crisis gives us no extension,” Tournas said.
Property owners who fail to clear land or submit declarations face fines ranging from €100 to €2,000 while false declarations carry criminal penalties including at least six months in prison and a €5,000 fine. Municipalities were also urged to designate collection points for plant waste.
