Two moderate earthquakes struck off southeastern Crete in quick succession on Saturday afternoon, rattling communities on Greece’s biggest island. No injuries or damages were immediately reported.

The first 4.6-magnitude tremor was recorded at 12.31 p.m. with the epicenter located 5 kilometers northeast of the islet of Gavdos and the focal depth estimated at 13.4 kilometers.

Six minutes later, a stronger 5.3-magnitude earthquake followed, with an epicenter 6 kilometers east of Gavdos and a focal depth of 10 kilometers.

The tremors were felt in several areas of Crete.
