South Africa's ministerial handbook reveals that Cabinet ministers receive a wide range of taxpayer-funded benefits, including free official residences, luxury vehicles, VIP protection, domestic and international flights, office staff and communication allowances, in addition to their annual salaries.
A free house, a R1.1m car and up to 20 free personal flights a year are just some of the perks President Cyril Ramaphosa's 32 ministers receive, all bankrolled by the long-suffering SA taxpayer.
The full package also includes a driver, a bodyguard, a housekeeper, five-star hotels on every overseas trip and a fully paid cellphone bill and TV subscription.
There are also six free flights a year for each dependent child — a provision ministers with large families, like Velenkosini Hlabisa who has six children, will no doubt appreciate.
Not one cent of it comes out of their R2.79m annual salary.
