According to Ajayi, the awards seek to celebrate photographers whose work helps deepen appreciation for nature and encourages conservation efforts in Nigeria.

Conservation advocates have raised an alarm, warning that Nigeria's wildlife and natural ecosystems are disappearing quietly amid growing environmental threats, calling for the preservation of the country’s natural heritage.

The warning came as stakeholders officially launched the Nigeria Nature Photography Awards (NNPA), unveiling a new platform aimed at promoting Nigeria’s biodiversity and natural heritage through photography while rewarding outstanding photographers with cash prizes and public recognition.

Announcing the initiative on Friday, the founder of the awards, Oluwasooto Ajayi, said the project was created to increase awareness of the country’s wildlife, landscapes, and ecosystems, which he noted remain largely underappreciated despite Nigeria’s rich biodiversity.

According to Ajayi, the awards seek to celebrate photographers whose work helps deepen appreciation for nature and encourages conservation efforts in Nigeria.
