A man was beaten up by a group of women and their relatives at Kannappalayam near Red Hills on Thursday after he was accused of harassing a woman. Videos of the incident have gone viral on social media.According to the police, the man, identified as Selvam, was accused of behaving inappropriately with a woman in the locality. Angered by the allegation, several women and their family members confronted him in public and assaulted him. Videos show Selvam pleading for mercy as the group chased him. Some of the women were seen kicking and hitting him with their footwear.They stopped only after a passerby intervened and warned them about the consequences if the man sustained serious injuries. After being alerted, personnel from the Red Hills police station rushed to the spot and admitted Selvam to a hospital for treatment.The police have registered a case.
