Proteas Women’s batting coach Andre Puttick says all-rounder Annerie Dercksen’s form with the bat is well-timed as the South Africans go into Sunday’s crucial clash with India in the T20 World Cup in England.
The Proteas need to beat arguably the best-performing team in the competition if they are to ensure they control their fate going forward. The South Africans’ position is vulnerable because of the first-round rout they suffered at the hands of Australia.
In their second match, they earned their first log points — but only just — after brittle batting saw them inch over the line by two wickets.
Dercksen top-scored with 52 off 35 balls, her second T20 half-century, and in the process provided Puttick with an answer to the team’s troublesome No 3 position.
