Sidon, Lebanon, June 19 (EFE).- Hundreds of vehicles clogged the highway linking southern Lebanon to Beirut on Friday as families fled north following a night of Israeli airstrikes that killed at least 21 people, according to Lebanese authorities, despite a ceasefire arrangement linked to the recent US-Iran agreement.
From early morning, traffic moved slowly northward as residents abandoned towns targeted in the attacks, including Harouf, Doueir, Al Sharqiyah, Al Qatrani, Jebchit and Al Abbasiya.
Many of those on the road had only recently returned home following the ceasefire.
«We thought today would be a quiet day and we wanted to return to our land, even though we had been told not to come back yet,» said Ahmed, a resident of Qana who asked to be identified by a pseudonym.
Travelling with his wife in a vehicle packed with belongings, including clothing, documents. and household items, Ahmed was heading back to temporary accommodation in Baakleen, between Sidon and Beirut.
