Malawian nationals wait in lines to board their bus home.
Thousands of Malawian nationals lined up outside Sherwood Hall on Friday, enduring cold temperatures and persistent rain while waiting for buses to take them back to Malawi after weeks of uncertainty.
The sprawling grounds were packed with families clutching their bags, blankets and the few possessions they had left.
Long queues stretched across the site as Home Affairs officials called out the names of those cleared to board the buses while police officers maintained order amid growing frustration.
Barbed wire surrounded the grounds and a heavy police presence remained visible throughout the day as authorities worked to ensure departures were conducted safely.
