Travellers can now take a direct train from Romania to Turkey and Bulgaria as summer services resume across Europe. Romanian operator CFR Calatori has announced that three seasonal international rail routes from Bucharest have restarted in June. From 12 June 2026, passengers departing from Bucharest can enjoy four months of daily direct connections to popular cities.Connections to Varna and Sofia in Bulgaria will depart at 10.46am from Bucaresti Nord, arriving at 7.56pm and 8.41pm respectively, with second-class tickets from €27 (£23.40) each way.An overnight 23-hour journey to Istanbul Halkali arrives at 9.56am the following day, with prices starting from €57.80 (£50.10) for a four-seat berth car. The seasonal journeys are scheduled to run until 12 October 2026.Tickets for can be purchased up to 90 days in advance online, or from CFR Calatori stations.The rail operator said: “Through these direct international routes, CFR Calatori supports passengers who choose to spend their holidays or vacations in Bulgaria and Turkey, providing a comfortable and affordable travel option.”In other rail news, one of the longest direct train services in Europe will launch this month, connecting major cities in Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland by rail.Czech private rail company Leo Express will launch the new train service on 25 June, with tickets starting from €10 (£8.65).Operating once daily in both directions, one end of the route is the Polish city of Przemyśl, which is only a few miles away from the Ukrainian border.The train then passes through popular destinations such as Kraków, Ostrava, Prague, Dresden, Leipzig, and Erfurt, before reaching Frankfurt in Germany.Read more: Independent Travel Awards: Win incredible prizes from luxury holidays to high teas
