June 19 (UPI) -- Google shared a special Google Doodle Friday to mark Juneteenth.

The artwork by Monique Wray blends "unique elements of African American heritage and Texas culture, from the community found in line dancing to the beloved mockingbirds."

People are depicted dancing together while framed by bluebonnets, the Texas state flower. A mockingbird, the Texas state bird, perches on the "G" of "Google."

Juneteenth is a federal holiday celebrating the official end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, news of President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation reached Galveston, Texas, nearly two years after the order was issued.
