Liverpool went stale last season under Arne Slot and the club are determined to refresh the side in the off-season. Andoni Iraola has come in to take Slot's job as manager and now the squad is being overhauled bit by bit.
Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate have left, and while Virgil van Dijk and Alisson remain, there is a real effort underway to freshen things up. Liverpool finished fifth in the Premier League under Slot's management last season, losing 19 games across all competitions in 2025/26.
Whereas they had previously been dynamic and intense, they grew ponderous and predictable. And while there were clearly issues right across the pitch, the lack of productivity from the flanks became a real headache.
Salah's departure leaves a gigantic hole to fill on the right wing, but the injury to Hugo Ekitike, the doubt over Federico Chiesa's future and a reluctance to rely too heavily on the 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha, means recruitment on the wings is a priority.
