Newcastle United’s Premier League season will get underway at home to Liverpool on Sunday, August 23.The Athletic reported in May that Eddie Howe is set to remain in charge at St James’ Park for the new season despite a downturn of a results which saw them finish the 2025-26 campaign in 12th.Newcastle will not be tasked with European football this season. They reached the last 16 of the Champions League last term, before an 8-3 aggregate defeat to Barcelona.Howe’s side will face rivals Sunderland at St James’ Park in the first Tyne-Wear derby of the campaign on the first weekend of December, before the reverse fixture on May 1-2. They did not win either fixture last season, as Regis Le Bris’ newly-promoted side finished ahead of Howe’s team in the European spots.Newcastle follow up their season-opener against Liverpool with an away trip to Tottenham Hotspur.
