Vice President JD Vance postponed his trip to Switzerland at the last minute on Thursday before he was supposed to travel abroad to take the next step in the Iran talks.Vance was initially set to sign the memorandum of understanding that President Donald Trump signed in France on Wednesday, but that plan is now up in the air. The White House blamed logistical issues for postponing the intercontinental flight to Geneva.“As the Vice President said at his press conference, the plans for the upcoming technical talks have not been finalized, and the U.S. delegation has been prepared to depart at the first available opportunity,” a White House spokesperson said. “But the logistics of these negotiations have never been simple or predictable. As of now the Vice President is not departing tonight. We will let you know as soon as we have a concrete update about next steps. We look forward to beginning technical talks as soon as possible.”

The statement was made as reporters expected to see Vance at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland before his scheduled departure.Earlier in the day, Vance said the U.S.-Iran meeting may take more time to organize because it’s difficult for Iranian officials to leave their country following the war. The vice president noted the trip could still take place over the weekend, but the meeting is not finalized yet.The 14-point MOU started 60 days of talks on Iran’s nuclear program and other disputes, with the clock starting on Wednesday after Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed the deal.‘HAVE A LITTLE FAITH’: VANCE TELLS REPUBLICAN CRITICS OF IRAN DEAL TO TRUST THE PROCESSVance defended the deal reached this week against Republican critics, telling them to trust the administration’s process.“I’ve seen skeptics of the deal,” he said at the press conference. “People say the Iranians will never change their behavior. Maybe that’s true, and if so, they don’t get any of the benefits of the bargain. But isn’t it worth trying?”
