Foreign reviewers reported a 40-percent rise in research quality since 2022.
Slovakia’s research and higher education sector has received a positive assessment from an international panel of experts, with a major evaluation finding significant improvements in the quality of scientific and academic work since 2022.
The results come from VER 2026, a nationwide review of research, artistic output and other scholarly activities at public universities and institutes of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV). The findings were presented this week by Education Minister Tomáš Drucker.
According to the review, the overall quality of Slovak research and artistic work has increased by around 40 percent compared with the previous assessment four years ago. The evaluation was conducted by 169 independent experts from 23 countries, including academics affiliated with institutions such as Princeton University and University College London.
Among Slovak universities, the University of Economics in Bratislava recorded the largest improvement since the last evaluation, followed by the University of Žilina and the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra. The strongest gains were seen in construction sciences, architecture and transport, and law and psychology.
