Court application targets RAF over alleged failure to pay 430 settled claims, with some delays reportedly stretching beyond two years, raising accountability concerns.

A court application has been launched against the Road Accident Fund (RAF) over the alleged non-payment of more than 430 settled claims.

The application was filed by de Broglio Attorneys, which says many claimants have not been paid within the RAF’s reported 180-day payment target period, with some matters allegedly remaining outstanding for more than two years.

The law firm said the application seeks an order compelling the RAF to provide full reasons and detailed explanations for the failure to effect payment in each matter where settlement agreements or court orders exist, but payment has not been made within the expected timeframe.

Claimants say delayed payments have significant consequences, affecting access to ongoing medical treatment, rehabilitation, specialised care and home adaptations. They also say delays place strain on the financial stability of families reliant on compensation following road accident injuries.
