The rehabilitation of Dr Pixley KaSeme Street (formerly West Street) is progressing well and remains on track for completion in mid-June as part of eThekwini Municipality's Inner-City Road Rehabilitation Programme.

Among the projects receiving additional funding are the rehabilitation of Dr Pixley KaSeme Street, which has been allocated R21 million, upgrades to uMgeni Road valued at R8 million and the rehabilitation of Margaret Mncadi Avenue, which will receive R16.5 million.

While supporting the reallocation of funds, ActionSA councillor Alice Govender said the municipality needed to focus on improving project delivery rather than repeatedly shifting unspent budgets between projects.

“We raise these concerns today so that when we next have to address this matter, we are reporting on completed works, not on another request to reprioritise the same unspent funds,” she said.

Govender questioned the municipality's project management systems, inter-departmental coordination and ability to meet commitments made to residents.
