MANILA, Philippines — Lawmakers on Wednesday sought P15 billion in supplemental budget for this year to defray the cost of rehabilitating areas in Mindanao that are reeling from the impact of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that rocked several provinces on the island on June 8.

The quake continues to generate strong aftershocks, leaving a trail of destruction in General Santos City and nearby Sarangani, Davao Occidental, and South Cotabato provinces.

On Tuesday, reports from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council showed that the death toll due to the quake had risen to 68 and over 1,000 people injured.FEATURED STORIES
