The American Jewish Committee (AJC) and the Hellenic American Leadership Council (HALC) have welcomed the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s approval of the Eastern Mediterranean Gateway Act, describing it as an important step toward strengthening regional connectivity, energy cooperation and strategic coordination among the United States, Greece, Cyprus and Israel.
The legislation cleared a key hurdle Wednesday after winning the committee’s backing.
In a joint response, the two organizations – two of the most influential advocacy organizations supporting closer cooperation among the US, Greece, Cyprus and Israel – praised the bill as a significant initiative to enhance economic and security ties in the region, while reinforcing partnerships among the four countries.
“We are encouraged by the growing bipartisan support for this bill and will continue working with Congress to see it signed into law,” the said.
The bill seeks to expand cooperation in areas including energy, infrastructure and regional connectivity, building on the framework established by recent US engagement with Greece, Cyprus and Israel.
