From mediaeval banquets and underground opal mines to film locations and folk dancing.
Discovering a region through its stories, flavours and talented locals is the aim of a new festival showcasing the Šariš region of north-eastern Slovakia in an unusual way.
A helping hand in the heart of Europe offers our travel guide to Slovakia.
Taking place from 24 to 26 July, the Discover Šariš festival will offer a wide range of activities for families with children, as well as enthusiasts of history, crafts, nature, film and music.
“Šariš is not just a region on the map,” the organisers from the Take naše civic association said in a press release. “It is a land of castles, traditional crafts, film stories, talented people, singing, dancing, humour and hospitality. And that is exactly how we want to present it – authentic, vibrant and experienced first-hand.”
