The group said participants would also use the event to call for stronger and more decisive action by President Bola Tinubu’s administration to tackle the country’s security challenges and protect vulnerable communities
The World Igbo Congress (WIC), the apex socio-cultural organisation of Igbo people in the diaspora, has announced plans to stage a major rally in Washington, D.C., to draw global attention to the worsening wave of killings, kidnappings and insecurity across Nigeria.
The group said the demonstration, scheduled to hold between June 20 and June 23, 2026, is aimed at mobilising international pressure on the Nigerian government and other stakeholders to address what it described as the escalating security crisis affecting communities across the country.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, WIC disclosed that it had mandated its Vice Chairman, Mazi Basil Onwukwe, to lead a delegation to the United States capital for the advocacy event, which is being organised in collaboration with the Save Nigeria advocacy group led by Stephen Osemweigie.
According to the organisation, the rally will focus on raising awareness about the persistent attacks, abductions and killings affecting Nigerians, particularly in communities that have borne the brunt of violent insurgency and armed criminal activities.
