The World Igbo Congress (WIC), the apex socio-cultural organisation of Igbo people in the diaspora, has announced plans to stage a major rally in Washington, D.C., to draw global attention to the worsening wave of killings, kidnappings and insecurity across Nigeria. The group said the demonstration, scheduled to hold between June 20 and June 23, 2026, is aimed at mobilising international pressure on the Nigerian government and other stakeholders to address what it described as the escalating security crisis affecting communities across the country.
