The City of Cape Town's intensified crackdown on illegal street racing has resulted in 33 arrests, 54 fines, and the impoundment of four vehicles during six targeted enforcement operations conducted in the 2025/26 financial year.

The figures, revealed in a written parliamentary reply and highlighted by the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape, underscore ongoing efforts to curb dangerous racing activities on public roads.

According to the data, nine of those arrested were charged with reckless and negligent driving, while 24 were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Authorities also suspended 13 vehicles after finding them to be unroadworthy.

The DA welcomed the results, saying the enforcement operations demonstrate the City’s commitment to road safety and holding offenders accountable
