Police dog Floppy was fatally shot after being released to track armed robbery suspects who fled into dense bush in Mdantsane.

Eastern Cape police have confirmed the death of K9 patrol dog Floppy, who was fatally shot while assisting officers in the pursuit of suspects linked to an armed robbery at a school in Mdantsane.

According to a report by Cape Times, Floppy was deployed on Friday after three armed suspects allegedly robbed Nzuzo Primary School and fled into dense bush near a dam in NU-16, Mdantsane.

Police said the suspects allegedly entered the school armed with firearms and robbed the premises of 20 laptops and 15 cellphones. They also allegedly stole the principal's black Peugeot before fleeing the scene.

Eastern Cape police commissioner Lieutenant-General Vuyisile Ncata said members of the Mdantsane Flying Squad responded to the incident and recovered the stolen vehicle about 1km from the school.
