The lawyers alleged that several stop-work and enforcement notices issued by the FCTA between August 2023 and July 2024 were ignored, resulting in the continued development and occupation of the structure.
Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has petitioned the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede, seeking the enforcement of an interim forfeiture order on a property located at Plot 4022, Guzape District, Abuja.
Falana, who is representing Mrs. Colleen Mero Yesufu, an octogenarian widow and nominal complainant in an ongoing criminal matter before the Federal High Court, Abuja, expressed concerns over what he described as the continued occupation and use of the property despite the existence of a subsisting court order.
In a petition addressed to the EFCC Chairman, jointly signed by two lawyers from Falana and Falana’s Chambers, Taiwo E. Olawanle and Prince Adebayo Adesina Oniyelu, the lawyers urged the commission to enforce the court’s forfeiture order and take immediate steps to evict the suspect, Rebecca Omokamo Godwin Isaac, as well as any unauthorised occupants from the property.
According to the petition, the property has been subject to regulatory concerns since 2023 following the withdrawal of the building approval by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Department of Development Control in October 2023.
