Veterinary inspectors found contaminated sheep dairy products at an unlicensed operation hidden in woodland near Lúčky.
Veterinary authorities closed an unlicensed sheep dairy operation in the Liptov region after linking a salmonella outbreak that sickened seven people to products from the site.
The investigation began when public health officials in Liptovský Mikuláš reported seven cases of gastrointestinal illness caused by Salmonella Schleissheim. Some of those affected required hospital treatment, according to My Liptov.
Veterinary inspectors later traced the cases to sheep dairy products from a remote forest site near the village of Lúčky. The State Veterinary and Food Administration (ŠVPS) said there was neither an approved dairy-processing facility nor a registered sheep flock at the location.
Inspectors found the site during a Sunday visit. They purchased bryndza, žinčica, fresh sheep cheese and smoked sheep cheese from the operator before carrying out a detailed inspection of the premises.
