Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha has emerged as one of the biggest stories of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after his inspirational display against Spain earned him global recognition and a massive increase in social media followers.
The veteran goalkeeper’s Instagram following surged from just over 50,000 before Cape Verde’s opening World Cup match against Spain to more than 7.6 million within 24 hours of the encounter.
Vozinha played a pivotal role as World Cup debutants Cape Verde stunned football fans by holding Spain to a goalless draw in Atlanta on Monday, securing the nation’s first-ever point at the global tournament.
The 40-year-old goalkeeper delivered a series of outstanding saves to keep the European champions at bay, denying several Spanish stars, including teenage sensation Lamine Yamal.
His performance earned him the Player of the Match award and made him one of the most talked-about figures of the tournament.
