Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha has become one of the breakout stars of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after his stunning performance against Spain sparked an extraordinary surge in popularity on social media.

The 40-year-old shot-stopper had just over 50,000 followers on Instagram before Cape Verde’s historic tournament opener against the European champions on Monday. Less than 24 hours later, that number had skyrocketed to 6.3 million, turning the veteran goalkeeper into a global sensation.

Vozinha was the standout performer as tournament debutants Cape Verde held Spain to a shock 0-0 draw in Atlanta, securing the country’s first-ever World Cup point.

Facing relentless pressure from Luis de la Fuente’s side, the experienced keeper produced seven saves and frustrated some of the world’s biggest stars, including substitute Lamine Yamal.
