School students taking part in a drawing competition held as part of the campaign against drug abuse at Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science in Coimbatore on Tuesday.

The Prohibition and Excise Department on Tuesday (June 16) encouraged the students to explore sports and creative activities alongside academic pursuits to realise the State Government’s vision of ‘Drug-Free Tamil Nadu’, during an awareness programme on curbing the drug menace conducted at Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science in Coimbatore city.The programme was inaugurated in the presence of Coimbatore City Police Commissioner N. Kannan, District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, and Managing Trustee of SNR and Sons Charitable Trust R. Sundar. Students from 25 schools took part in essay-writing, poetry, drawing and singing contests to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse.Mr. Kannan said that the Police Department was taking stringent measures to combat drug abuse. Staying away from drugs would pave way for success in life, he said, and called upon the public to report drug-related activities near their homes and schools to the Police Department.College Principal B.L. Shivakumar said that slogans against drug abuse will be displayed at vantage locations on the campus. The students were administered pledge against drug addiction.
