Deputy Inspector General of Police (Coimbatore Range) P. Saminathan urged students to stay away from drugs and report instances of drug use or trafficking to the police during a drug awareness programme held at the Nehru Institute of Engineering and Technology, Thirumalayampalayam, on Thursday.Organised by the institution in association with the Tamil Nadu Police, the programme focused on creating awareness about substance abuse among students.Addressing the gathering, the DIG said drug addiction could destroy an individual’s future and appealed to students to neither use drugs nor allow others to do so. He advised those staying in hostels and rented accommodation to remain cautious of influences that could lead to substance abuse and assured that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.The DIG also administered the anti-drug pledge, which was taken by students, faculty members and other participants.
