Demonstrators taking part in a peace rally after tensions escalated between India and Pakistan last year following a deadly attack in Kashmir. India has raised concerns over the tragic deaths of civilians in Pakistan's crackdown on PoJK protesters, framing the fresh unrest as a direct result of Islamabad's oppressive governance.

India has expressed “grave concerns” over the presumed deaths of 30 civilians and injuries to 200 others in Pakistan’s military crackdown on protesters in Pakistan Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), calling the unrest a “natural consequence of Pakistan’s oppressive approach.”

During a UN Security Council open debate, India’s Permanent Representative Ambassador P. Harish called upon Pakistan to “end the grave and ongoing human rights violations in the areas illegally occupied by it, where the population is in open revolt against Pakistan's military occupation, repression, brutality and illegal exploitation of resources.”

The Ministry of External Affairs separately framed the unrest as a result of Islamabad’s governance failures, not an India-Pakistan dispute.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the protests are a “natural consequence of Pakistan’s oppressive approach and systemic plundering of resources from these territories, which remain under its forcible and illegal occupation.” He added: “Pakistan must be held accountable for its horrific human rights violations.”
