Thoothukudi Coastal Security Group (CSG) Police seized 40 sacks of beedi leaves and six bundles of cigarettes, which were intended for smuggling to Sri Lanka, in the early hours of Monday at Inigo Nagar.According to police, CSG police led by Sub-Inspector Shankar were on a patrol at Inigo Nagar beach area. Around 3:45 a.m. police intercepted and inspected a taurus lorry that arrived at Inigo Nagar beach. The vehicle was found carrying 40 sacks of beedi leaves each weighing around 35 kg and 1,20,000 cigarettes in six bundles.Following this, the police seized the lorry along with smuggled goods. The driver of the taurus Mari Kumar, 36 from Ganapathy Nagar in Thoothukudi was also arrested.The seized goods and the accused were handed over to the customs department.
