The family of Mmadudilim had earlier cried out over what it described as the “unlawful arrest and prolonged incarceration” of their son for about two years without trial, alleging that the police action had caused severe emotional distress to the entire family since 2024.

A 26-year-old bricklayer, Ndudi Valentine Mmadudilim of Ozubulu in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State, who was allegedly unlawfully arrested and detained since 2024 without trial, has reportedly died in police custody, SaharaReporters has learned.

SaharaReporters gathered that Mmadudilim was first arrested in 2023 by officials of the Anambra Vigilante Service (AVS) in Ozubulu, led by the branch chairman, Jude Onanuju. He was reportedly held for three days at the vigilante office before being transferred to Ugwu-Olie Police Station, where he was later granted bail by a court.

However, he was re-arrested in 2024.

He was subsequently arraigned before Magistrate O.I. Nworah of the Chief Magistrate Court GD 2 in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area, on allegations bordering on cultism and unlawful possession of a locally made double-barrel pistol.
