Donald Trump has secured approval to participate in yet another World Cup trophy presentation ceremony, continuing a pattern of high-profile FIFA appearances that have become a recurring feature of his administration’s sports diplomacy playbook.
The development comes after Trump already made his presence felt at the FIFA Club World Cup final on July 13, 2025, where he took the stage alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino to present the trophy to Chelsea captain Reece James following a 3-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
From MetLife to the main stage
Trump remained prominently positioned onstage during Chelsea’s celebratory trophy lift. A mix of confusion and boos greeted the president’s presence during what is traditionally a moment reserved for players, coaches, and FIFA officials.
The trophy presentation was preceded by Infantino personally presenting the FIFA Club World Cup trophy at Trump Tower earlier in July 2025.
