US President Donald Trump continues to undermine Fifa, and make the 2026 Fifa World Cup about himself.
According to talkSPORT.com, United States President Donald Trump will reportedly break Fifa World Cup tradition by lifting the 2026 Fifa World Cup trophy alongside the champions. He is expected to remain on stage after performing the trophy presentation with Fifa President Gianni Infantino.
It wouldn’t be the first time Donald Trump has made a tournament about himself. During last year's Club World Cup in the United States, he joined Chelsea for their trophy lift, remaining on stage long after the confetti had fallen.
With the significantly larger World Cup tournament approaching, he appears set to be a focal point once again. Reports indicate he may play a prominent role during the final on July 19 at MetLife Stadium.
The rationale behind Trump’s decision remains unknown. However, it is clear that he has centered the tournament around himself since it was confirmed that the United States would co-host with Mexico and Canada.
