Little Zayden Naicker should be taking his first confident steps and exploring the world around him.
Instead, the Durban toddler is battling a rare genetic disorder, life-threatening seizures and a growing list of medical complications that have left his family desperately searching for help.
Zayden has been diagnosed with Gorlin-Goltz Syndrome, a rare genetic condition caused by mutations in tumour-suppressor genes. He also suffers from hydrocephalus, macrocephaly, global developmental delay (GDD) and bifid ribs.
The condition requires ongoing specialised medical care, regular specialist consultations and extensive testing — costs that his family says have become impossible to manage on their own.
His parents have since launched a BackaBuddy crowdfunding campaign in the hope of giving their son a fighting chance.
