According to the stakeholders, Nigeria is facing a critical moment that requires urgent intervention to restore public trust in governance and democratic institutions.
A coalition of pro-democracy activists, political leaders, labour representatives and civil society stakeholders has raised alarm over Nigeria's deepening political, economic and security crises, warning that the country risks further deterioration unless urgent reforms are implemented before the 2027 general elections.
The warning was contained in a communiqué issued by the Movement for Credible Elections (MCE) in collaboration with the June 12 Democracy Movement of Nigeria at the conclusion of a June 12 Democracy Anniversary dialogue in Lagos State capital.
The event, which commemorated the struggle for democratic governance in Nigeria, began with participants paying tribute to the late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola and other heroes of democracy at the MKO Abiola Democracy Centre before proceeding to the anniversary dialogue.
The gathering attracted prominent political stakeholders, democracy advocates, labour leaders, women and youth leaders, civil society actors and representatives of political parties from across the country, including Tunji Abayomi, Adewole Adebayo, Sylvester Odion Akhaine, Mike Igini, Sadiq Abubakar Umar Gombe, Anthony Kila, Tanko Yunusa, Remi Sonaiya, Emeka Ugwu-Oju and Solomon Dalung, among others.
