Puducherry Airport achieves a major milestone by becoming the first power-neutral, solar-powered airport managed by the Airports Authority of India.

Puducherry Airport has outlined a series of events to mark Yatri Suvidha Diwas on June 15. Airport Director K. Rajasekhar Reddy in a release said the Civil Aviation Ministry has decided to observe June 15 as Yatri Suvidha Diwas to show aviation sector’s concern for passengers. Various events have been planned on the day, including eco-friendly initiatives and planting of saplings, he said Mr. Reddy said that the Puducherry Airport has achieved a major milestone by becoming the first power-neutral, solar-powered airport managed by the Airports Authority of India. The ground-mounted solar power plant has a capacity of 500 kWp. It generates an average of 55,000 units of energy every month, meeting the airport’s average annual electric consumption, he said. The lone operator from the airport, IndiGo, has handled around 1 lakh passengers for the first time in the financial year 2025-26. The airliner operates flights directly to Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Rajahmundry, he said. “The proposed runway expansion project promises a bright future with larger aircraft and new routes. With improved facilities, the airport is poised to play a vital role in enhancing tourism, trade, and economic development in the Union Territory, “ the release added.
