…says its the most reliable system for peace, development accountability and protection of fundamental rights
Ahmed Usman Ododo, Kogi State Governor has called upon Nigerians to remain committed to the protection and strengthening of democratic institutions, describing democracy as the most reliable system for ensuring peace, development, accountability, and the protection of fundamental rights.
Ododo, in his Democracy Day message on Friday, Ododo congratulated Nigerians on the milestone of sustained democratic governance, urging citizens to reflect on the sacrifices made by national heroes who fought to entrench democratic rule in the country.
Ododo quoted former United States President Abraham Lincoln, just as he described democracy as “the government of the people, by the people, for the people,” stressing that its strength depends not only on elections but also on the active participation of citizens in governance.
He said, “As we celebrate today, I urge all Nigerians to remain committed to the preservation and protection of our democracy. The gains we enjoy today were secured through years of struggle, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment by patriots who believed in a better Nigeria”.
