The Labour Party has urged Nigerians not to lose faith in the country’s democratic future despite prevailing economic and security challenges, insisting that democracy remains the best path to national development and prosperity.
In a Democracy Day message issued in Abuja on Friday, LP National Publicity Secretary Ken Asogwa congratulated Nigerians at home and in the diaspora and also called for renewed commitment to democratic ideals.
The party said the day provides an opportunity for reflection on the sacrifices made by pro-democracy activists and patriots whose struggles paved the way for the return to civilian rule.
While acknowledging that Nigeria’s democratic journey has been characterised by unmet expectations and setbacks, Asogwa urged citizens not to succumb to hopelessness.
He said, “While it is true that Nigeria’s democratic journey has been marked by unfulfilled aspirations and missed opportunities, we must not surrender to despair.
