National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Thursday, said democracy remains Nigeria’s strongest pathway to unity, stability, and national prosperity, as the country marked the 2026 Democracy Day commemorating the June 12, 1993, presidential election.
The APC chairman and governors, in a Democracy Day message marking the 32nd anniversary of the annulled poll, defended the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying they were repositioning the country for long-term growth despite initial hardship.
Yilwatda, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, felicitated with Nigerians on the occasion of Democracy Day, urging citizens to reflect on the significance of June 12 and recommit themselves to the ideals of unity, patriotism, good governance, and national development.
“June 12 is one of the most important dates in Nigeria’s democratic journey, representing the courage and sacrifice of countless patriots who stood firmly for justice, electoral integrity, and the sovereignty of the Nigerian people.
“Democracy Day is not merely another public holiday; it is a solemn reminder of our collective struggle for freedom, representative government, and the right of every Nigerian to determine the destiny of our nation through democratic means.
